MARKAL (MARKet ALlocation) Model

Project Summary

Full Title: MARKAL (MARKet ALlocation) Model
Project ID: 149
Principal Investigator: Chip Friley
Brief Description: MARKAL is a computer-driven, dynamic optimization model that uses upwards of 10,000 equations and constraints to foster strategic energy planning.
Keywords: Cost; energy use; emissions

Purpose

By integrating energy, environmental, and economic factors, the MARKAL model provides energy system solutions to support national planning and policy decisions. It finds a least cost set of technologies to satisfy end-use energy service demands and user-specified constraints, and calculates resulting environmental emissions.
