DOE Seeks Public Comment on Draft Paper on the "Potential Roles of Ammonia in a Hydrogen Economy"
April 25, 2006
Over the years, questions have been raised on the viability of ammonia as an energy carrier for on-board vehicular storage of hydrogen. These issues have been investigated by the U.S. Department of Energy with input from various sources, including members of the Hydrogen Storage Technical Team of the FreedomCAR & Fuel Partnership.
A paper entitled "Potential Roles of Ammonia in a Hydrogen Economy: A Study of Issues Related to the Use of Ammonia for On-Board Vehicular Hydrogen Storage" (PDF 518 KB) has been developed and is now available for public comment. The objectives of this paper are to identify, evaluate, and summarize the key issues and advantages and disadvantages associated with ammonia for on-board vehicular hydrogen storage. DOE will be accepting comments through June 15, 2006. Please provide comments in an email message (or as a Word document attached to an email) to h2systems@nrel.gov. Your expert inputs are important as we make critical decisions concerning on-board hydrogen storage strategies and R&D priorities in the future.
